Shadowhawk Blades

Forging Demos

Forging demos are interactive opportunities for groups of all sizes to see how knives are made, hear about the history of bladesmithing, and learn how traditional bladesmithing impacts our lives today.

Any demo can cover a bit of everything but the focus and length can be adapted to meet your needs.

Demos are suitable for a wide range of events or groups: Scouts, religious groups, clubs, historical events or groups, heritage festivals, craft shows.

I can bring my forge to your preferred location and pricing for demos varies based on travel distance and length of demos.

Here’s a sample of some of the things that may be covered in a demo.

History:

How could common bladesmithing information have saved the Titanic?

Who was the blacksmith who became king?

Language:

What happens when you “lose your temper”?

Why would someone "test your metal"?

Philosophy/Theology:

How can bladesmithing be a metaphor for life?

Is being dense a good or bad thing?

Technical Aspects:

What makes a knife become a knife?

How does design affect function?

Is one way of making a blade better than another?

Interaction:

Various audience members can assist in forging a blade.

Individuals may have the opportunity to make trinkets to take home.
